2026-09-30 version

Snapshot taken during the 2026-09-30 editorial pass

The version published before the 2026-09-30 editorial pass. That pass changed no claim, source, law, table, or artifact. It rewrote about eighty sentences to remove habits of machine-drafted prose: the two-beat reversal (“not this. It is that.”) restated as one direct sentence, paired aphorisms that closed paragraphs merged or cut where they repeated the chapter’s law, narrator asides that told the reader what mattered removed, colon drumrolls turned into plain sentences, dramatic fragments completed, and filler intensifiers deleted.

2026-09-20 version

Snapshot taken during the 2026-09-20 audit

The version published before the 2026 audit. That audit narrowed an attribution in chapter 13 (one designer on OpenAI’s Codex team, not “the frontier labs”), replaced the one em dash in the decision-log sample, and added one paragraph to chapter 10, Evaluation-Driven Design: the grader changed shape in 2026, because System One models such as TypeSafe’s Jev answer a bounded rubric line with a calibrated probability, which makes the hundred-variant check routine and turns the threshold into a real number. The same day’s editorial pass gave the flagship eval one name across chapters 5, 9, 12, and the tutorial, added the consent and outputShape fields the prose promised for two artifacts, moved the sunset cadence from “annually” to the models’ cadence, retired the forecasts that had come true (“soon interfaces”, “increasingly draws”), and removed a dozen narrator asides that stepped outside the subject. Later the same day chapter 6 gained Vercel’s measured design.md result, and chapter 13’s Codex anecdote was replaced with OpenAI’s own statement that the model performed without AGENTS.md or custom scaffolding.
